Over-50 World Cup, day 3 wrap: Kaiser Gantsho, Louis Koen star as SA beat Namibia

Six rain-affected matches were played at the 2023 Over-50 World Cup on Thursday, 9 March.

South Africa Over-50 v Namibia Over-50

South Africa beat Namibia by 10 wickets at Rondebosch Cricket Club.

Namibia reached a total of 118 for seven in 27 overs, as Melt van Schoor hit 37 not out. Kaiser Gantsho completed figures of two for 29 in six overs.

Louis Koen and Brandon Nash hit 58 not out and 54 not out, respectively, in South Africa’s reply of 122 without loss in 14.2 overs.

South Africa remained unbeaten in the 2023 Over-50 World Cup after victories against India and Pakistan, too.

Australia Over-50 v New Zealand Over-50

New Zealand beat Australia by two wickets at Claremont Cricket Club.

Tony Clark hit 57 not out in Australia’s total of 160 for seven in 43 overs. Kelvin Scott took three wickets for New Zealand.

New Zealand reached the 161 for eight in 42.3 overs. Adil Somani struck 64 for New Zealand and James Morris claimed three wickets for Australia.

Reigning champions Australia have lost three consecutive matches at the 2023 Over-50 World Cup.

India Over-50 v Wales Over-50

India beat Wales by nine wickets at Rylands Cricket Club.

Matt Phillips hit 13 not out in Wales’ total of 45 all out in 19.2 overs. Pawan Malik took five for 14 in five overs for India.

Samarth Hegde hit 23 as India replied with 46 for one in nine overs. Mark Davies claimed the lone wicket for Wales.

Canada Over-50 v USA Over-50

The United States of America beat Canada by four wickets at Western Province Cricket Club’s Wally Wilson Oval.

Bede Anandappa and Vishan De Mel hit 19 each in Canada’s total of 11 for nine in 30 overs. Himanshu Patadia took four wickets for the USA.

Rafay Kazi hit 37 in USA’s response of 112 for six in 22.2 overs. Mathalagam Eswaralingam took three wickets for Canada.

Sri Lanka Over-50 v West Indies Over-50

West Indies beat Sri Lanka by six wickets at Pinelands Cricket Club.

Senarath Seneviratne struck 40 not out in Sri Lanka’s final total of 159 for five in 30 overs. William Lashley took one for 20 for West Indies.

Ishwar Maraj and Sunil Dhaniram collected 37 each in West Indies’ reply of 160 for four in 28.5 overs.

This was Sri Lanka’s first loss of the 2023 Over-50 World Cup after wins over Australia and New Zealand.

Pakistan Over-50 v UAE Over-50

Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates shared a washout at Durbanville Cricket Club.

Pakistan moved to 110 for four in 17.5 overs before play was called off. Jamsahid Ali hit 32 not out for the Pakistan. Ambey Arun Parwatkar took two wickets for the UAE.
