Over-50 World Cup, day 6 wrap: SA lose to England, USA beat NZ, another ton for Murray Goodwin

Six matches were played at the 2023 Over-50 World Cup in Stellenbosch, Franschoek and surrounds on Monday, 13 March.

South Africa Over-50 v England Over-50

England beat South Africa by three wickets at the Groot Drakenstein Games Club.

Andre Peters and Mario Solomons hit a half-century each in South Africa’s total of 201 for five in 45 overs. Martyn Gidley collected two wickets for England.

Giles Ecclestone hit 84 in England’s reply of 202 for seven in 44 overs. James Albanie took four wickets for South Africa.

This was South Africa’s first defeat of the 2023 Over-50 World Cup after wins over Pakistan, India, Wales and Namibia.

Zimbabwe Over-50 v Canada Over-50

Zimbabwe beat Canada by 78 runs at Van der Stel Cricket Club.

Murray Goodwin hit 100 in Zimbabwe’s total of 205 for six in 45 overs. This is Goodwin’s second century of the 2023 Over-50 World Cup. He is currently the leading run-scorer in this year’s tournament. Bede Anandappa took two wickets for Canada.

Aarif Talati top-scored with 52 not out in Canada’s reply of 127 all out in 38.4 overs. Darshan Vaghmaria took four wickets for Zimbabwe.

Pakistan Over-50 v India Over-50

Pakistan beat India by five wickets at Bridge House School.

Iqbal Khan top-scored with 40 in India’s total of 175 for seven in 45 overs. Muhammad Querishi and Muhammad Hafeez took two wickets each for Pakistan.

Muhammad Jawed hit 45 in Pakistan’s reply of 176 for five in 41.3 overs. Five Indian bowlers took a wicket each.

UAE Over-50 v Wales Over-50

Wales beat United Arab Emirates by five wickets at Oude Libertas.

Muhammad Shafique hit 53 in United Arab Emirates’ total of 165 all out in 43.2 overs. Iwan Rees, Roy Emmott and Mike Cann claimed two wickets each for Wales.

Rees hit 37 in Wales’ reply of 169 for five in 38.5 overs. Khurram Khan took two wickets for UAE.

Australia Over-50 v West Indies Over-50

Australia beat West Indies by seven wickets at Stellenbosch University.

Sunil Dhaniram struck 70 in West Indies’ total of 199 for seven in 45 overs. Ilham Jaufer took three wickets for Australia.

Richard Gabb hit 71 not out in Australia’s reply of 202 for three in 40.2 overs. Dhaniram took two wickets for West Indies.

This was reigning champions Australia’s second successive victory after three consecutive defeats earlier in the 2023 Over-50 World Cup.

New Zealand Over-50 v USA Over-50

United States of America beat New Zealand by 32 runs at Stellenbosch University.

Satyapal Chhabra collected 57 not out in United States of America’s total of 222 for five in 45 overs. Dean Askew took two wickets for New Zealand.

Andrew Hore hit 60 in New Zealand’s response of 190 for nine in 45 overs. Sajith Fernando took three wickets for USA.
