Over-50 World Cup wrap, day 4: Craig Lyons, Morne Cilliers, Andre Peters star as SA beat Wales

Six matches were played in the Over-50 World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa on Friday, 10 March 2023.

All Tuesday’s six matches were won by the team batting second.

South Africa Over-50 v Wales Over-50

South Africa beat Wales by seven wickets at Milnerton High School.

Mike Cann and Simon Wood scored 67 and 57, respectively, as Wales reached a total of 215 for eight in 45 overs.

Alan Dawson, Clive Eksteen and Goolam Taliep took two wickets each for South Africa.

Andre Peters, Craig  Lyons and Morne Cilliers hit half-centuries in South Africa’s response of 217 for three in 43.2 overs.

Mark Davies and Iwan Rees took a wicket each for Canada.

South Africa remained unbeaten in the 2023 Over-50 World Cup after victories over India, Pakistan and Namibia, too.

New Zealand Over-50 v West Indies Over-50

New Zealand beat West Indies by eight wickets at Reddam House School, Constantia.

Delroy Rawlins struck 100 not out in West Indies’ total of 234 for nine in 45 overs. Andrew Nuttall took three wickets for New Zealand.

Robbie Frew and Richard Petrie struck 77 not out and 70, respectively, in New Zealand’s response of 235 for two in 38.4 overs. Vejai Seonarine and William Lashley took a wicket each for West Indies.

Sri Lanka Over-50 v Canada Over-50

Sri Lanka beat Canada by six wickets at Westerford High School.

Aarif Talati top-scored with 39 in Canada’s total of 119 all out in 41.4 overs. Suwanji Madanayake took three wickets for Sri Lanka.

Prasanna Jayawardena hit 42 not out in Sri Lanka’s reply of 120 for four in 22.4 overs. Mathalagam Eswaralingam claimed two wickets for Canada.

England Over-50 v India Over-50

England beat India by five wickets at Bergvliet High School.

Verinder Bhoombla hit 71 in India’s total of 218 for eight in 45 overs. Mohammed Fayyaz took three wickets for India.

Naseer Ahmed collected 72 not out in England’s reply of 222 for five in 44.3 overs. Nishit Shetty took three wickets for India.

Zimbabwe Over-50 v USA Over-50

Zimbabwe beat the United States of America by six wickets at Wynberg Boys’ High School.

Sajith Fernando struck 30 in USA’s total of 140 all out 43.4 overs. Andrew Walton took three wickets for Zimbabwe.

Stuart Carlisle hit 66 not out in Zimbabwe’s reply of 141 for four in 39.4 overs. Himanshu Pitadia took two wickets for USA.

Namibia Over-50 v UAE Over-50

United Arab Emirates beat Namibia by seven wickets at Camps Bay High School.

Daneel van der Walt collected 30 in Namibia’s total of 112 for eight in 29.5 overs. Ambey Arun Parwatkar claimed three wickets for UAE.

Rafiullah Syed hit 45 not out in UAE’s reply of 114 for three in 20 overs. Willie van Zyl took two wickets for Namibia.
