Over-50 World Cup wrap, day 5: Murray Goodwin hits century in victory over Sri Lanka

Six matches were played in the 2023 Over-50 World Cup on Sunday, 12 March.

Zimbabwe Over-50 v Sri Lanka Over-50

Zimbabwe beat Sri Lanka by three wickets at Rylands Cricket Club.

Carmen Mapatuna hit 48 in Sri Lanka’s total of 190 for nine in 45 overs. Darshan Vaghmaria took three wickets for Zimbabwe.

Murray Goodwin struck 122 not out in Zimbabwe’s reply of 192 for seven in 42.5 overs. Ravi Perera and Ruvin Peiris took two wickets each for Sri Lanka.

Goodwin became the leading run-scorer in the 2023 Over-50 World Cup during Sunday’s century.

The result moved Zimbabwe to fourth position in the seven-team division one of the 2023 Over-50 World Cup.

Namibia Over-50 v Wales Over-50

Wales beat Namibia by 181 runs at Pinelands Cricket Club.

Simon Wood hit 45 not out in Wales’ total of 231 for six in 45 overs. Isidor Titus took three wickets for Namibia.

Dawie Hartzenberg struck 15 in Namibia’s’ reply of 50 all out in 27.3 overs. Roy Emmott completed figures of five for 17 in nine overs for Wales.

West Indies Over-50 v USA Over-50

West Indies beat the United States of America by 13 runs at Cape Town Cricket Club.

Sunil Dhaniram hit 72 in West Indies total of 191 for nine. Zubair Hussain and Humayun Bashir took three wickets each for USA.

Parak Ananta hit 61 in USA’s response of 178 all out in 43 overs. Vejai Seonarine took three wickets for West Indies.

Pakistan Over-50 v England Over-50

Pakistan beat England by 40 runs at Rondebosch Cricket Club.

Jamsahid Ali collected 55 in Pakistan’s total of 234 for eight in 45 overs. Mehboob Elahi took three wickets for England.

Naseer Ahmed struck 55 in England’s reply of 194 all out in 42.2 overs. Naeem Tayyab took three wickets for Pakistan.

The result moved Pakistan to fourth position in the seven-team division two of the 2023 Over-50 World Cup.

Australia Over-50 v Canada Over-50

Australia beat Canada by five wickets at Durbanville Cricket Club.

Vishan De Mel hit 51 in Canada’s total of 159 for nine in 45 overs. Damien Meek too six for 24 in nine overs for Australia.

Steve Mace hit 52 in Australia’s reply of 160 for five in 41.5 overs. Mathalagam Eswaralingam took two wickets for Canada.

India Over-50 v UAE Over-50

India beat United Arab Emirates by 90 runs at Western Province Cricket Club.

Pradip Patel hit 36 in India’s total of 145 all out in 41.4 overs. Syed Asad Mehdi Rizvi took three wickets for UAE.

Rehan Khan top-scored with 10 in UAE’s reply of 55 all out in 18.4 overs. Iqbal Khan ,who is the joint-leading wicket-taker in the 2023 Over-50 World Cup, completed figures of five for 19 in eight overs for India.

The win moved India to second position in the 2023 Over-50 World Cup’s seven-team division two.

South Africa Over-50 and New Zealand Over-50

South Africa and New Zealand did not play on Sunday. Their 2023 Over-50 World Cup campaigns will resume on Monday, 13 March.
