Pinelands Cricket Club have appointed former United Cricket Club and Ottoman Cricket Club batsman Muneer Holmes assistant coach ahead of the 2022-23 Western Province Cricket Association season.

Holmes was capped at first-class and List A level by Western Province before becoming a club cricket stalwart. He has plenty of coaching experience, most recently as head coach of Pinelands High School’s second XI.

Holmes will work alongside Pinelands Cricket Club head coach Garreth von Hoesslin.

What Holmes said

“I am really honoured to join Pinelands Cricket Club. I remember playing them when they were one of the best teams in Western Province and I am hoping to take them to those heights once more,” Holmes told Club Cricket SA.

“Chairman Graedon Boswell is really ambitious, as am I, and I am excited for what is to come.”

What Pinelands Cricket Club said

“We are excited to have Muneer join the squirrels – he has a stellar reputation among the cricketing fraternity,” said Boswell.

“The experience he brings will bode well in guiding our youthful team to level up their game.”

Pinelands Cricket Club relegation

Pinelands Cricket Club’s first XI have been relegated to the WPCA first division B. They finished in 10th position in 2021-22’s 12-team first division A, after nine wins, 11 defeats and one no-result.

United Cricket Club finished in 11th position and were also demoted. Gugulethu Cricket Club, who finished in last position, are exempted from relegation.

Pinelands Cricket Club promotion

Pinelands Cricket Club’s second XI have been promoted to the WPCA reserve division B. They finished in second position in the 2021-22 first division C, after 14 wins and four losses.
