Pirates Cricket Club have retained captain Chad Roberts for the 2022-23 Lions Cricket premier league B season.
Roberts led Pirates Cricket Club to a third-place finish in the 2021-22 premier league B.
He will work alongside new head coach Keagan Moore, who was appointed earlier this year.
‘Club experiencing a resurgence’
“It has been a tough few years for the club since being relegated from the premier league A. The club is experiencing a resurgence at the business end of a very enjoyable rebuilding period,” said Roberts.
“We have seen an influx of players and are really proud of the second and third teams, who had gained promotion for the 2021-22 season. I am excited for the premier league season as we have a fantastic group of cricketers who are also great people.”
New second team captain
Phillip Kemp, meanwhile, has succeeded Theo van Heerden as Pirates Cricket Club second XI captain.
Third XI captain Gareth Hiepner has been retained.
“It gives us immense pleasure to announce Chad, Phillip and Gareth Hiepner as captains for the upcoming season,” said Pirates Cricket Club chairperson Mlungisi Nkosi.
“We wish them all the best on the field. There has been a great amount of effort and work that took place during the off-season from an administration perspective, which also included an upgrade to facilities, securing sponsorships and employing quality coaches.
“There will be good competition for places. We believe we have elected the perfect candidates for managing manage this and wish them all a good season ahead, knowing they have the full support of the chairperson and the committee.
“Pirates Cricket Club have not been in a healthier position than where we are currently before the start of a season. We are eagerly awaiting getting out on the field.”
