Pollsmoor Maximum Security Prison have entered two teams into the Western Province Cricket Association second and third divisions for the 2016-17 season.
Pollsmoor Cricket Club’s first XI will play in the second division – and their second XI in the third division E.
“Pollsmoor had applied to enter the league season last season, but their application was late. They previously played as part of Peninsula Cricket Club, as somewhat of a ‘closed’ team in the third division D, but they are now their own entity,” WPCA Club and Facilities Co-Ordinator Thulani Zideba told Club Cricket SA.
“They have their own field within the prison grounds – and have also entered a women’s team. They draw mostly from wardens and other employees to make up their teams.”
Based in the southern suburb of Tokai, Cape Town, PCC’s opening second division fixture will be against Samora Machel Cricket Club on Saturday, 8 October 2016. Their first third division E match will be with Mfuleni Cricket Club eight days later.
