Port Elizabeth Cricket Club have confirmed the retention of player-coach Garret Perry, ahead of a testing 2017-18 Eastern Province Cricket premier league campaign.
Perry was instrumental in Port Elizabeth Cricket Club’s rise to fourth position in the 2016-17 premier league, which brought seven victories in 12 attempts.
“I am glad to play with players who have the will to give everything – and walk the extra mile. We have not lost any premier league players during the off-season – and have gained a few new guys,” the 37-year-old Perry told Club Cricket SA.
“We would like to keep the core as is, as everyone in the side knows what their job is in certain situations.”

Vice-captain Jaco Radder added: “Since Garret has joined Port Elizabeth Cricket Club coach, we have worked hard to change the culture of the club to what it once was, when all the players enjoyed the cricket and the camaraderie.
“It is a culture of passion and pride for the name of Port Elizabeth Cricket Club. The players really play for the club – and not as individuals.”
The talented all-rounder earned two first-class – and five List A appearances – for the Free State between 2006 and 2008.
“As a former provincial cricketer and, with a Cricket South Africa level three qualification, I’m keen to put this experience in play at Port Elizabeth Cricket Club,” concluded Perry.
Port Elizabeth Cricket Club’s homeground is St George’s Park, which has hosted 27 Tests since 1889 – and 39 ODIs and two T20Is.
