Primrose Cricket Club’s David Schierhout debuted for the Cape Cobras on day one of this week’s Four-Day Franchise Series fixture against the Titans at Newlands in Cape Town.

Schierhout took 11 wickets across four first-class appearances during the 2019-20 season.

The left-arm spinner was particularly impressive with five wickets on debut against KwaZulu-Natal – and has since been contracted by Western Province.

He was the top wicket-taker in the 2018-19 first division A, with 51 at an average of 10.7.

“It does help to play at Newlands. We haven’t played a lot of four-day games here in the last few years, so it will be nice for the guys to be based here,” said Cobras head coach Ashwell Prince.

“At Newlands you know what you’re kind of going to get in terms of the surface. You want to have a good contest between bat and ball and I think that’s what you’ll get here, based on history.”
