Proteas captain Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of this month’s first Test against Bangladesh.
Bavuma has been sidelined by an arm injury sustained during the recent ODI series against Ireland.
“Scans revealed a left tricep muscle strain. He will travel with the squad to Dhaka on Tuesday and continue his recovery under the supervision of the Proteas medical team,” read a statement from Cricket South Africa.
Batsman Dewald Brevis has been added to the squad for the two-Test series as cover for Bavuma. Brevis has not yet been capped in Test cricket.
Batsman Aiden Markram will captain the team in the absence of Bavuma.
Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has also been added to the squad. He has replaced the injury Nandre Burger.
“Burger will miss the tour due to a lumbar stress fracture. He will now commence his rehabilitation with the Cricket South Africa and Western Province medical teams,” added CSA.
