Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi and spinner Tabraiz Shamsi have been added to South Africa’s squad for this month’s ODI tri-series against New Zealand and Pakistan.

Coach Rob Walter initially named a 12-man squad, which was reduced to 11 when fast bowler Gerald Coetzee withdrew due to injury. The additions of Ngidi and Shamsi have grown the squad to 13 players.

The uncapped Mihlali Mpongwana, Meeka-eel Prince and Gideon Peters have been selected.

Fast bowler Junior Dala, who has not played international cricket since 2021, has been included as well.

“You couldn’t get more excited guys than the younger guys that have been included in the squad. Can you imagine how awesome that must be, and the opportunity that’s in front of them,” said Walter.

“We want to just build on that, to ensure that the environment is one that allows them to come and express themselves. To actually show that X-factor on the international stage and grow in their own confidence, and maybe show us something around their capability at international level.”

The four-match tri-series will precede the Champions Trophy in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
