Proteas batsman JP Duminy has been named in Strandfontein Cricket Club’s squad for 7 and 8 October’s Western Province Cricket Association Ama20 Competition fixtures.
Strandfontein Cricket Club, who have been placed in group A of the first division A, will play Edgemead Cricket Club on Saturday and Tygerberg Cricket Club on Sunday.
Duminy has been named in a formidable 13-man party, which will also features the talented Chad Josephs and Rostil Wessels. Josephs will captain the XI.
The veteran left-hander played 46 Tests before retiring from the longest format of in the international game earlier this year. He remains available for ODI and T20I selection – and will captain the Cape Town Knight Riders in next month’s inaugural T20 Global League.
“After long and careful deliberation, I have decided to retire from first-class and Test match cricket with immediate effect. I have thoroughly enjoyed the privilege and opportunity to represent my country in 46 Tests and the Cape Cobras in 108 first-class matches overs the past 16 years,” said the 33-year-old in September.
“It is an experience that cannot be replaced and one I will always cherish. Test cricket has always been the pinnacle and I’ve been fortunate enough to experience some memorable highlights with the Proteas and also in first-class matches with the Cape Cobras.
“In recent years, I have been privileged to be a senior member and custodian of a special team environment and culture which has made me very proud. In the years ahead, my focus will be placed on attaining limited-overs cricket success for South Africa and the Cape Cobras, along with attending to my young family, who have been incredibly supportive and understanding.”
Strandfontein Cricket Club succeeded Ottoman Cricket Club as the Most Sporting Team of the Year at the 2016-17 WPCA awards earlier this year.
