The Delhi Capitals have signed Proteas fast bowler Lizaad Williams for the remainder of the 2024 Indian Premier League.
Williams has replaced England batsman Harry Brook in the Capitals’ squad.
This is Williams’ first time in the IPL. Delhi signed him for 50 lakh – the approximate equivalent of R1.1 million.
Late last month, Proteas spinner Keshav Maharaj was added to the Rajasthan Royals’ squad for the rest of this season’s IPL.
Maharaj replaced fast bowler Prasidh Krishna in the Royals’ squad. Krishna has been sidelined by injury.
The IPL started in 2008, when Rajasthan won the inaugural title. The Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are the most successful teams in the history of the tournament. They have five titles each. Chennai are the reigning champions.
The Kolkata Knight Riders have won the IPL title twice. The Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans have won the title once each. The Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi, Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants have never won the IPL title.
