Cricket South Africa have contracted seamer Gerald Coetzee.
Coetzee debuted in international cricket earlier this year – and has since played two Tests, 13 ODIs and three T20Is.
The 23-year-old Coetzee is with the Proteas in the ongoing Cricket World Cup in India. He has taken 18 wickets in seven matches. This is the most wickets taken by a Proteas cricketer at a Cricket World Cup.
Coetzee has likely replaced wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock among the contracted players. De Kock will retire from ODI cricket after the World Cup. He retired from Test cricket in 2021.
In March 2023, CSA increased the number of contracted players from 16 to 20 – and announced a list that excluded batsman Janneman Malan and all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo.
The duo had been contracted by CSA previously. Phehlukwayo and Malan were later contracted by the Dolphins and Boland, respectively.
