Current Clares Cricket Club and former Pinetown Cricket Club spinner Senuran Muthusamy has been named in South Africa’s squad for October 2019’s Test series against India.

Dolphins all-rounder Muthusamy is accompanied by two other players uncapped at Test level in the squad – Warriors fast bowler Anrich Nortje and Knights wicketkeeper-batsman Rudi Second. Nortje has played four ODIs.

“All three newcomers to the Test side have more than earned their spurs through impressive performances in last season’s 4-Day Franchise Series,” said Cricket South Africa acting director of cricket Corrie van Zyl.

The 25-year-old Muthusamy is one of three specialist spinners in the 15-man touring party. Victoria Cricket Club and Cape Cobras star Dane Piedt and the experienced Keshav Maharaj are the others.

“We feel we have covered all the options for the conditions we are likely to encounter on the sub-continent with Muthusamy an Piedt, who was far and away the leading wicket-taker in our four-day competition, providing the backup to Keshav,” added van Zyl.
