Proteas fast bowler Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of Tuesday’s third ODI against Australia in Potchfestroom.
Nortje has been sidelined by a back injury sustained during last week’s second ODI in Bloemfontein.
“Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the third ODI against Australia, scheduled for Tuesday, 12 September at the JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom,” read a statement from Cricket South Africa.
“The 29-year-old left the field after bowling five overs during the second ODI in Bloemfontein on Saturday due to lower back spasms.
“He returned to bat during the chase but still requires further assessment and will undergo scans in Johannesburg on Monday. An update will follow in due course.”
Australia lead the five-match series two-nil.
All-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo was added to the Proteas squad as cover for the injured Sisanda Magala last week.
