Seamer Sisanda Magala will not be available for South Africa’s second T20I against Australia at Kingsmead in Durban on Friday.
Magala has been sidelined by a knee injury.
“Sisanda Magala has been ruled out of the second T20I due to a left knee injury. The 32-year-old felt discomfort during training and subsequent scans revealed an infrapatellar tendinopathy. The medical team will continue to manage him ahead of the third T20I on Sunday,” read a statement from Cricket South Africa.
Parnell in doubt
Whether all-rounder Wayne Parnell will be available for this month’s ODI series against Australia remains in the balance.
“Wayne Parnell has developed a recurrence of a left shoulder injury. A further update on the extent of the injury will be provided following a scan,” added CSA.
Maharaj available
Spinner Keshav Maharaj, meanwhile, is in contention for a return to international cricket. Maharaj has not played for the Proteas since March 2023 due to injury.
“Keshav Maharaj has been cleared for selection for the remainder of the T20I series and proceeding ODI series,” concluded CSA.
“The 33-year-old has progressed positively through his rehabilitation of his ruptured left Achilles and successfully participated in the Dolphins’ pre-season match against the Tuskers in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday.”
Australia lead the three-T20I series one-nil.
