Proteas fast bowler Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the remainder of this month’s ODI series against Australia.
Nortje has been sidelined by a back injury.
Captain Temba Bavuma is unavailable for Friday’s fourth ODI due to a thigh injury. Batsman Aiden Markram has been named captain in Bavuma’s absence.
“Nortje underwent scans and consulted with a specialist this week, and will start bowling again this weekend under the supervision of the Proteas medical team,” read a statement from Cricket South Africa.
“A further update will be provided in due course. No replacement has been named.
“Bavuma is unavailable for selection for the fourth ODI. Bavuma has a right adductor strain and as a precautionary measure, he has been ruled out of the match. Markram will captain the side.”
Australia lead the five-match series two-one.
