Batsman Rassie van der Dussen will captain the Proteas during this month’s T20I series against the West Indies.
Van der Dussen has become the 16th cricketer to captain South Africa in T20I cricket.
“Van der Dussen brings a wealth of experience. We feel he will be good in the leadership space,” said Proteas limited-overs coach Rob Walter.
The three-T20I series in the West Indies will precede next month’s T20 World Cup in the United States of America and Caribbean.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock and fast bowlers Anrich Nortje and Gerald Coetzee have been added to the squad for the T20I series. The squad has grown from the provisional 12 to the final 15, which excludes regular T20I captain Aiden Markram. He is still with the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the ongoing Indian Premier League.
De Kock, Nortje and Coetzee were with the Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians, respectively, in the ongoing IPL. Lucknow, Delhi and Mumbai failed to qualify for play-off stage of the IPL. De Kock, Coetzee and Nortje are in the T20 World Cup squad, too, while van der Dussen was excluded.
