Proteas overlook Tristan Stubbs, Dewald Brevis for World Cup – and release from ODI squad

Batsmen Tristan Stubbs and Dewald Brevis have been released from the Proteas’ squad for this month’s ODI series against Australia.

Stubbs and Brevis were also excluded from South Africa’s squad for the 2023 Cricket World Cup in India announced on Tuesday.

“Brevis and Stubbs have been released from the ODI squad against Australia for the five-match series that starts on Thursday,” read a statement from Cricket South Africa.

All-rounder Wayne Parnell was also omitted from the World Cup. He has been sidelined by injury after playing in The Hundred, T20 Blast, Major League Cricket and Indian Premier League earlier this year.

“Parnell will continue his recovery from a left shoulder injury under the medical supervision of Western Province,” added CSA.
