Fast bowler Junior Dala has been named in South Africa’s squad for this month’s ODI tri-series against Pakistan and New Zealand.
Dala has not played ODI cricket since 2018. He has not played T20I cricket since 2021. He represented Durban’s Super Giants in the SA20 this year.
South Africa are without several injured players, including fast bowlers Lizaad Williams, Nandre Burger, Anrich Nortje and Gerald Coetzee.
The uncapped Mihlali Mpongwana, Meeka-eel Prince and Gideon Peters have been selected for this ODI tri-series.
“You couldn’t get more excited guys than the younger guys that have been included in the squad. Can you imagine how awesome that must be, and the opportunity that’s in front of them,” said Proteas limited-overs coach Rob Walter.
“We want to just build on that, to ensure that the environment is one that allows them to come and express themselves. To actually show that X-factor on the international stage and grow in their own confidence, and maybe show us something around their capability at international level.”
The four-match tri-series will precede the Champions Trophy in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
