Western Province’s Zubayr Hamza has replaced batsman Keegan Petersen in the Proteas’ squad for this month’s Test series against New Zealand.
Petersen has tested positive for the coronavirus. He was the leading run-scorer in the recent Test series against India.
“The number three batsman is well and asymptomatic. The medical team will keep in close contact with him to ensure his physical and mental wellbeing,” read a statement from Cricket South Africa.
Hamza has not played Test cricket since 2020, but recently broke into the ODI XI.
