Proteas wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock was sold to the Lucknow Super Giants at Saturday’s player auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League.
De Kock was purchased for INR 6.75 crore – the equivalent of approximately R13 million. He previously played for the Mumbai Indians.
“We wanted someone like a Quinton, because we wanted to free KL Rahul up from his wicketkeeping responsibilities. Sometimes being a ‘keeper, captain and opening batsman can be strenuous,” said Lucknow Super Giants mentor Gautam Gambhir.

Du Plessis to RCB
Former Proteas captain Faf du Plessis joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 7 crore – the approximate equivalent of R14 million. Du Plessis used to play for the Chennai Super Kings.
“We’re very happy, pretty much bang on budget. He’s a proven IPL performer. Faf has done most of the work at the top of the order and we might not change that,” said Royal Challengers Bangalore director of cricket operations Mike Hesson.
“Still plenty of work to do. We have a number of young players on our radar. We have a few targets.”
Rabada to Punjab
Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada moved to the Punjab Kings for INR 9.25 crore – the equivalent of approximately R18 million. Rabada previously played for the Delhi Capitals.
