Batsman Rassie van der Dussen has been given a hybrid, rather than, full contract by Cricket South Africa for the 2025-26 season.
Batsman David Miller has also accepted a hybrid contract form CSA.
“When I am at this stage of my career, I need to start stepping back. We have an abundance of talented guys, especially in the batting department, so this contract is about me overseeing this transition period,” said van der Dussen.
“The next two years are going to be very important for us in terms of imparting the knowledge onto the younger guys. They will take the Proteas forward. This a bridging time in the next two years and that is where my role is.
“I am a realistic person and the Cricket World Cup is two and a half years away. I will be 38 years old, or closer to 39 and I think I will still have it in me. I don’t expect to receive any preferential treatment.
“Part of being a good team player and professional is realising when it’s a good time for someone else to take your spot. I am still going to play for the next two years, but I can’t say what happens in that period, but I am happy either way. I want to give it as much as I can.”
Meanwhile, Proteas batsman Dewald Brevis has been added to the Chennai Super Kings’ squad for the remainder of this year’s Indian Premier League. Brevis collectedd two T20Is in 2023, but has not played international cricket since.
“The next year or two for Dewald will be massive. He rode the early wave, went through a dip, and now he is back. As a player, that’s such an important journey to undergo,” added van der Dussen.
