The Lions beat the Dolphins by seven wickets in Sunday’s T20 Challenge final at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
The Dolphins posted a final total of 165 for eight in 20 overs. Lions seamer Codi Yusuf and spinner Bjorn Fortuin took two wickets each.
The Lions responded with 168 for three in 17.4 overs. Batsman Reeza Hendricks and all-rounder Wiaan Mulder hit 73 not out and 55 not out, respectively.
This is the Lions’ third T20 Challenge title in five years. They won the 2020-21 and 2018-19 tournament, too. The Lions also won this season’s 4-Day Domestic Series, division one, title.
The Warriors’ Matthew Breetzke scored the most runs in this season’s T20 Challenge. He collected 467 runs in 15 innings at an average of 36 – and strike rate of 131.
The Warriors’ Siya Simetu and Beyers Swanepoel were the joint-leading wicket-takers in this season’s T20 Challenge. Simetu and Swanepoel took 21 wickets each.
