Proteas all-rounder Vernon Philander will play for Tygerberg Cricket Club against the University of Cape Town Cricket Club, in 13 and 20 March 2016’s key Western Province Cricket Association first division A fixture.
Sidelined by an ankle injury sustained prior to the second Test against India in November last year, Philander has not played international cricket in over four months.
“It is great to have Vernon playing for the club, even if it is just one game. All the guys are hyped up and raring to go. With Vernon being there, it will surely make the guys play at their best” said club secretary Alnico Adams.
The selection of the 30-year-old Philander is a big boost for Tygerberg Cricket Club, who are currently in ninth position in the 10-team first division A standings – and battling to avoid relegation.
The match will be played at Florida Park in Ravensmead, Western Cape.
Earlier this season, South African fast bowler Dale Steyn made a rare WPCA premier league appearance for Western Province Cricket Club against St Augustine Cricket Club at the Vineyard Oval in Claremont, Cape Town.
