Western Province Women have lost batter Faye Tunnicliffe and spinner Robyn Appels.
Appels has retired and Tunnicliffe is relocating the United Kingdom.
Western Province confirmed Appels’ retirement and Tunnicliffe’s departure after last week’s title success in the Women’s One Day Cup.
“Robyn Appels has announced her retirement from cricket, and fittingly bowled the final over of this year’s competition,” read a statement from Western Province.
“Robyn has been a cornerstone of the WP squad for many years, and during her illustrious career also represented the SA Emerging Women’s team. We wish her well in her future endeavours.”
“Faye Tunnicliffe will also be leaving WP, as she moves to the UK to pursue her career there. Faye has represented both WP and South Africa in her career so far. All the best to Faye for her cricketing future.”
Western Province Women finished a full nine points clear ahead of the second-placed Dolphins in the One Day Cup standings, after winning seven out of 10 matches.
“I’d just like to thank each and every person that contributed to our season – each player, each member of management that put in the hours of work and planning,” said Western Province Women head coach Claire Terblanche.
“A special thank you to them for this intense season of cricket and I only hope they grow from strength to strength.”
