Rondebosch Cricket Club all-rounder Shane Getkate debuted for Ireland in Wednesday’s Twenty20 International against Oman in Al Amarat.
Getkate was run out for 10 in eight deliveries – and had bowled two inexpensive, wicketless overs – in a comfortable victory for Ireland.
He was central to the first half of Rondebosch Cricket Club’s 2018-19 Western Province Cricket Association campaign.
The talented seamer took 14 wickets in eight matches, which included a telling five for 29 in 10 overs in October 2018’s victory over the University of the Western Cape Cricket Club. He didn’t fare well with the bat, though, with a highest score of 25 against Victoria Cricket Club.
The 27-year-old has since departed for this month’sĀ Oman Quadrangular T20I Series, which will also feature the Netherlands and Scotland.
“It has been great getting guys like Getkate and others involved in the senior set-up, and their call-ups have been thoroughly deserved. They have all impressed so far with their attitude and it is now about going out and grabbing the chance with both hands,’ current Ireland and former Proteas coach Graham Ford told Cricket Ireland.
Getkate told Cricket Ireland recently: “I’ve tried to focus on T20 for the last two years, since the selectors told me to concentrate on the white-ball stuff. Graham said he’d seen a different side of me and I would be going on this T20 tour.”
