Reigning champions Rondebosch Cricket Club currently occupy fifth position on the 2024-25 Western Province Cricket Association premier league.

Rondebosch Cricket Club have won 11 matches and lost nine – and are two points behind fourth-placed Brackenfell Cricket Club and four behind third-placed Bellville Cricket Club.

Durbanville Cricket Club and Western Province Cricket Club are currently in first and second position, respectively.

Rondebosch Cricket Club cannot surpass Durbanville Cricket Club’s 70 points – and have a marginal chance of matching Western Province Cricket Club’s 67 despite last week’s victory over former reigning champions Claremont Cricket Club.

“I guess it would be quite fair to ask why we are not in the running to defend our title. The answer is quite simple,” Rondebosch Cricket Club head coach Sean Hendrieck was quoted as saying by the Tatler.

Former first-class cricketers Alistair Gray and Thokozani Peter left Rondebosch Cricket Club before the start of this season. Gray relocated to Canada and Peter joined Milnerton Cricket Club.

Western Province Colts all-rounder Christiaan Oberholzer, meanwhile, joined Rondebosch Cricket Club from Cape Town Cricket Club.

“We lost several experienced players at the end of last season. You take Lenert van Wyk out, then our average age is 22 years old in the team. We are sitting in fifth spot and after this win over Claremont, I think we are doing pretty well,” added Hendrieck.

Rondebosch Cricket Club also gained batsman Kashief Joseph, who recently struck the highest score in this season’s WPCA premier league. He hit 144 not out against Claremont Cricket Club.

“Joseph is a very talented player and I think if he works hard he certainly has a bright future for him,” concluded Hendrieck.
