Western Province utilise international fielding coach for T20 Challenge campaign

Fielding coach Ryan Maron will work with Western Province during this season’s T20 Challenge.

This is Maron’s first formal role in South African domestic cricket since working with South Western Districts in the Africa Cup in 2016. He also worked with the Dolphins in SA domestic cricket in 2015.

More recently, Maron has worked with Afghanistan and the West Indies in international cricket – and the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League.

He will work alongside head coach Rory Kleinveldt and batting coach Qaasim Adams during Western Province’s T20 Challenge campaign, which will start against North West at Newlands in Cape Town on Sunday.

Western Province reached the play-off stage of last season’s T20 Challenge – and involved several premier league and first division A club cricketers in this week’s warm-up fixtures.

Green Point Cricket Club seamers Keegan Crawford and Michael Moore were among the players who participated in Tuesday’s fixtures at Rondebosch Cricket Club.

Durbanville Cricket Club seamer Tashwin Lukas, Rondebosch Cricket Club seamer Cameron Fraser and Cape Town Cricket Club batsman Josh Chippendale played, too.

All-rounder Morne Pentz from Northerns Goodwood Cricket Club, who are in the WPCA first division A, played as well.

More Western Province Cricket Association premier league and first division A players will be involved in Wednesday’s warm-up fixtures at the University of the Western Cape Cricket Club, too.
