The International Cricket Council’s rankings for Test batsmen have been updated after South Africa’s series against Pakistan.
The Proteas’ Kyle Verreynne and Ryan Rickelton have moved to 24th and 55th position, respectively. Verreynne has moved up four positions and Rickelton 48. Rickelton hit a double-century against Pakistan at Newlands recently. Verreynne recorded a century in the same match.
Captain Temba Bavuma, meanwhile, has moved to sixth position. This is the highest Bavuma has been in the ICC’s rankings for Test batsman. He was previously in ninth position.
Batsman Aiden Markram has dropped one position to 17th.
South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada has climbed from fourth to third position in the ICC’s rankings for Test bowlers. Fellow fast bowler Marco Jansen has remained in fifth position. Spinner Keshav Maharaj has climbed from 19th to 17th.
India’s Jasprit Bumrah and England’s Joe Root are currently at the top of the Test bowler and batting rankings, respectively.
South Africa and Australia will contest the ICC’s 2023-25 World Test Championship final at Lord’s in London, England, in June.
“We have an opportunity to do something special for the country. One thing I know is with that group of player everyone will try and run through a brick wall to make sure we get on the right side of that result,” said Bavuma ahead of the WTC final.
New Zealand won the 2019-21 WTC title. India ended in second position and Australia third. England were fourth. South Africa were fifth.
