Rylands Cricket Club have secured the services of seamer Riaaz Teladia and batsman Rushdi Jappie from Rondebosch Cricket Club and Ottoman Cricket Club, respectively, ahead of a challenging 2017-18 Western Province Cricket Association first division B campaign.
Rylands Cricket Club finished in sixth position in 2016-17’s 10-team first division B, after three victories in nine attempts – and earlier this season welcomed the arrival of wicketkeeper-batsman Zahid Allie from Primrose Cricket Club.
The talented Taariq Behardien had been named Ottoman Cricket Club captain prior to Jappie’s exit, while Rondebosch Cricket Club have gained batsmen Bradley Barnes and Martin Walters from Milnerton Cricket Club.
Rylands Cricket Club’s first division B campaign will get underway against Kuils River Cricket Club on 21 October, followed by taxing home fixtures against Bonteheuwel, Somerset West Cricket Club and Helderberg Cricket Club.
Meanwhile, Proteas batsman JP Duminy has been named in Strandfontein Cricket Club’s squad for 7 and 8 October’s WPCA Ama20 Competition fixtures.
Strandfontein Cricket Club, who have been placed in group A of the first division A, will play Edgemead Cricket Club on Saturday and Tygerberg Cricket Club on Sunday.
Duminy has been named in a formidable 13-man party, which will also features the talented Chad Josephs and Rostil Wessels. Josephs will captain the XI.
The veteran left-hander played 46 Tests before retiring from the longest format of in the international game earlier this year. He remains available for ODI and T20I selection – and will captain the Cape Town Knight Riders in next month’s inaugural T20 Global League.
