Western Province all-rounder Mihlali Mpongwana has been appointed South Africa Emerging captain for August 2024’s series against Zimbabwe Emerging.
Mpongwana has previously been included in the Proteas’ Test and ODI squads, but has not yet debuted in international cricket.
Western Province batsman Valentine Kitime has also been included in the 14-man South Africa Emerging squad.
“We’ve spent the last three months together as a group training at the Centre of Excellence in Pretoria and we’re now ready to go and play some competitive cricket,” said SA Emerging head coach Malibongwe Makete.
“We’ve got a great squad that covers all bases and this tour presents an opportunity for those players to showcase their abilities against international opposition and make a name for themselves through their performances.
South Africa Emerging and Zimbabwe Emerging will meet for two four-day and three one-day matches in Bulawayo from 1 to 17 August.
“I am also very confident that Mihlali will thrive with the additional responsibility of leading the side across both formats,” added Maketa.
