Several club and provincial players from South Africa will play cricket in the United Kingdom and surrounds in 2023.
Lance Alberts to Greenfield Cricket Club
Atteridgeville Cricket Club’s Lance Alberts will play for Greenfields Cricket Club. Alberts previously played for Mooreside Cricket Club.
“Securing Lance has given the club and the players a massive boost,” said Greenfield Cricket Club head of cricket Jon Mayer.
Shane Dadswell to Instonians Cricket Club
Easterns batsman Shane Dadswell for play for Instonians Cricket Club.
Dadswell played for the Pretoria Capitals in the inaugural edition of the SA20 – and has represented the Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League.
Munowar Samsodien to Mold Cricket Club
Rylands Cricket Club seamer Munowar Samsodien will join Mold Cricket Club in Wales.
“The club are delighted to announce the signing of Munowar Samsodien from South Africa,” said Mold Cricket Club.
“He is an experienced bowling all rounder from Cape Town, who took a total of 74 wickets at an average of 12 last season for Maghull Cricket Club in Liverpool.
“We very much look forward to welcoming him to North Wales and wish him a very successful season.”
Sean Whitehead to Rawtenstall Cricket Club
Former South Western Districts all-rounder Sean Whitehead will paly for Rawtenstall Cricket Club in England.
Whitehead recently left SWD in division two of South African domestic cricket for the Warriors in division one.
Mathew Goles to Burridge Cricket Club
Cape Town Cricket Club batsman Mathew Goles will join Burridge Cricket Club.
Goles was Cape Town Cricket Club’s leading run-scorer in the 2022-23 Western Province Cricket Association Premier League – and won the club’s Player of the Season award.
Cape Town Cricket Club team-mate Nathan Schultz will rejoin Burridge Cricket Club, too.
Goles and Schultz’s time at Burridge Cricket Club will continue a longstanding relationship with Cape Town Cricket Club.
All-rounder Geoff Dods, batsman Hilio De Abreu and other CTCC members have played for Burridge Cricket Club in the past.
Thaakir Davids to Warrington Cricket Club
Rylands Cricket Club all-rounder Thaakir Davids has signed for Warrington Cricket Club.
“Thaakir is a top-order batter and useful off-spin bowler. A prolific run-scorer at schoolboy level, he has since enjoyed a breakout season with Rylands Cricket Club in Cape Town during the highly-competitive Western Province Cricket Association premier league,” said Warrington Cricket Club.
“He is a passionate and ambitious cricketer who has everything it takes to have a great future in the game.
“With junior coaching experience under his belt already, he is looking forward to working with the club’s talented youngsters and creating a lasting impact in the years to come.”
Franco Kasner to Bangor Cricket Club
Vikings Cricket Club all-rounder Franco Kasner will return to Bangor Cricket Club in Wales.
“This fine all-rounder is leaving for tEnglish shores again. He captained our flagship team for the last four matches of the 2022-23 WPCA season with distinction, obtaining two valuable bonus-point wins in the process, which was crucial in the race to stay in the first division A,” read a statement from Vikings Cricket Club.
Ryan Kruger to Frankton Cricket Club
Sinoville Cricket Club batsman Ryan Kruger will play for Frankton Cricket Club.
“Signing the big-hitting, run-making Centurion batting all-rounder brings further depth to FCC’s top order, with overs of leg spin to support our bowling attack,” read a statement from Frankton Cricket Club.
“The South African young gun arrives with quick centuries, player of the match awards and tournament six-hitting records to his name.
“He is eager to arrive on UK soil and share some South African flare during his summer with us.”
Dan Da Costa to Carlton Cricket Club
Western Province Cricket Club Dan Da Costa will join Carlton Cricket Club in Scotland.
Da Costa has been key to Western Province Cricket Club’s 2022-23 Western Province Cricket Association premier league campaign.
He represented the club at the 2022 T20 Community Cup – and the Bo-Kaap Phantoms in the latest Cape Premier League.
Jesse Christensen to Ryton Cricket Club
Rondebosch Cricket Club batsman Jesse Christensen will play for Ryton Cricket Club in Gateshead.
Christensen was capped 12 times at first-class level by Western Province from 2017 to 2021, before South African domestic competition returned to provincial from franchise cricket.
“We are delighted to announce Jesse as our overseas Professional for the 2023 season,” read a statement from Ryton Cricket Club.
“The 24-year-old is an attacking top-order batsman and off-spinner. Christensen has represented South Africa Under-19.
“The club can’t wait to welcome Jesse to Sir Charles Parsons Park.”
World Sports Xchange facilitated the arrangement between Christensen and Ryton Cricket Club.
Matthew Christensen to Eppleton Cricket Club
South Western Districts batsman Matthew Christensen will play for Eppleton Cricket Club in Sunderland.
Christensen is contracted by South Western Districts in division two of South African provincial cricket.
World Sports Xchange facilitated this arrangement, too.
Hanu Viljoen to Newbuildings Cricket Club
Northern Cape batsman Hanu Viljoen will join Newbuildings Cricket Club in Northern Ireland.
Viljoen has been capped six times in first-class cricket – and is averaging over 100.
Kagiso Rapulana to Hatherleigh Cricket Club
Former Lions batsman Kagiso Rapulana, who recently joined the Tuskers, will return to Hatherleigh Cricket Club in Devon.
Rapulana has played first-class cricket for more than 10 years.
This will be his second season at Hatherleigh Cricket Club.
“Kagiso plays at a very decent level and the club can’t wait to see what he can do for us. He is a top-order batsman who can bowl and coach as well, so is is the ideal fit for us both on and off the pitch,” said club captain Mark Lake prior to Rapulana’s first stint.
Rudi Second to Haslingden Cricket Club
Warriors wicketkeeper-batsman Rudi Second will join Haslingden Cricket Club in Lancashire.
Second was named in the Proteas’ Test squad previously, but hasn’t yet been capped at international level.
Jerome Bossr to Woodhouse Grange Cricket Club
Border batsman Jerome Bossr will join Woodhouse Grange Cricket Club in Yorkshire.
Bossr has been capped 10 times in first-class cricket.
“Jerome is a South African first-class cricketer, also representing his country at under-19 level,” read a statement from Woodhouse Grange Cricket Club.
“Jerome played in the UK last season for Plymouth Cricket Club and finished third-highest run-scorer in the league at the time.”
Senuran Muthusamy to Ramsbottom Cricket Club
Proteas cricket Senuran Muthusamy will return to Ramsbottom Cricket Club.
Muthusamy is currently with the Pretoria Capitals in the inaugural edition of the SA20.
He was capped twice at Test level in 2019 – and is contracted by North West in division one of South African domestic cricket.
Ruan van Rooyen to Crossflatts Cricket Club
Harlequins Cricket Club player Ruan van Rooyen will return to Crossflatts Cricket Club in Yorkshire, England.
This will be van Rooyen’s second season with Crossflatts Cricket Club.
“Ruan had a brilliant season with us last season. We are delighted to invite him back,” said the club.
Herschelle Poggenpoel to Holsworthy Cricket Club
Paarl Cricket Club’s Herschelle Poggenpoel will be Holsworthy Cricket Club’s overseas player.
“We are delighted to announce the signing of Herschelle as our overseas player,” read a statement from Holsworthy Cricket Club.
“The South African all-rounder will undoubtedly strengthen our club – both on and off the field – as we celebrate our 150th anniversary.
“This is a huge step for the club. We are looking forward to seeing HP at Stanhope Park in 2023.
“Herschelle has experience of playing in the United Kingdom for Hayfield Cricket Club in Derbyshire.”
Rubin Hermann to Earby Cricket Club
North West wicketkeeper-batsman Rubin Hermann will play for Earby Cricket Club, who have also signed Impala Cricket Club’s Estiaan Schonfeldt.
“We are delighted to announce the signing of South African Rubin Hermann as our professional for the 2023 season,” said Earby Cricket Club.
“We look forward to welcoming Rubin to The Applegarth and many thanks to Gary Hunt at CricIntro for all his help in getting the deal finalised.
“We also look forward to welcoming Estiaan to The Applegarth and hope he has a great season with us.”
Eddie Moore to Minster Cricket Club
Western Province batsman Eddie Moore will return to Minster Cricket Club. He will captain the first XI.
Minster was a Warriors batsman during previous stints with Minster Cricket Club, but has since been contracted by Western Province.
David Schierhout to Oxford Downs Cricket Club
Primrose Cricket Club spinner David Schierhout will play for Oxford Downs Cricket Club.
Schierhout was the leading wicket-taker in the 2022-23 Western Province Cricket Association first division A.
Thando Ntini to Lordswood Cricket Club
Tuskers seamer Thando Ntini has been signed by Lordswood Cricket Club in Chatham.
Ntini played for the Cape Cobras, Titans and Dolphins before moving to the Tuskers.
He is the son of former Proteas fast bowler Makhaya Ntini.
Malcolm Cloete to Chard Cricket Club
Milnerton Cricket Club seamer Malcolm Cloete has signed for Chard Cricket Club.
“Exciting news as promised earlier back in October. Chard have secured the signing of the highly-rated South African fast-bowling all-rounder Malcolm Cloete for the 2023 WEPL Somerset league campaign,” read a statement from Chard Cricket Club.
“Malcolm was the leading wicket-taker in the Devon premier league last season with Heathcoat Cricket Club and brings a wealth of experience from South Africa and previous English summers.
“The signing of Malcolm shows the club’s intent to improve on last year’s league position with a quality player.”
Jono Bird to Kearsley Cricket Club
Western Province and Pinelands Cricket Club batsman Jono Bird will join Kearsley Cricket Club in Bolton.
Bird is contracted by Western Province in provincial cricket.
Daniel Smith to Sandal Cricket Club
Western Province and Claremont Cricket Club batsman Daniel Smith will play for Sandal Cricket Club.
“We are absolutely thrilled to announce Daniel Smith as our overseas player for the 2023 season,” read a statement form Sandal Cricket Club.
“Daniel is one of South Africa’s brightest prospects. A left-hand opening batsman and dynamic wicketkeeper, he has represented Western Province through the age groups.
Sandal Cricket Club captain Kristian Shuttleworth added: “We are delighted to be able to bring a player of Daniel’s calibre to Sandal Cricket Club. It’s a real coup to have signed one of the top prospects in South Africa. We’re all hugely excited to welcome Daniel to the club and see him in action in the Bradford premier league – division one.”
Aviwe Mgijima to Ardmore Cricket Club
Western Province and Brackenfell Cricket Club batsman Aviwe Mgijima will join Ardmore Cricket Club.
“We are delighted to have signed a player of Aviwe’s calibre and experience,” said Ardmore Cricket Club.
“He came highly recommended by our outgoing professional Tyron Koen and Rob Humphries at World Sports Xchange (WSX).
“Aviwe will not only add depth to our playing strength, but as a level two coach, will work extensively on the youth coaching programme which we have been building up in recent times.”
Basheer Walters to Alton Cricket Club
South Western Districts seamer Basheer Walters will return Alton Cricket Club. This will be Walters’ third successive season at Alton Cricket Club.
Walters was the top wicket-taker in division two of the 2022-23 One Day Cup. He claimed four wickets in the final – and was named player of the match.
Justin Gilliland to Barnoldswick Cricket Club
Strandfontein Cricket Club batsman Justin Gilliland will play for Barnoldswick Cricket Club.
“We are delighted to announce the signing of our young overseas amateur for the coming season. Justin Gilliland will be joining us from Strandfontein Cricket Club, Cape Town, South Africa,” said Barnoldswick Cricket Club.

Western Province all-rounder Mihlali Mpongwana will join Denton St Lawrence Cricket Club.

Jordan Hermann to Witham Cricket Club
Warriors batsman Jordan Hermann has been signed by Witham Cricket Club.
“Very excited to be joining Witham CC for the 2023 East Anglian premier league. Excited to win some matches both on and off the field,” said Hermann.
Witham Cricket Club first XI captain Jake Wakelin added: “Over the moon to sign Jordan. Looking forward to taking the field with him bringing extra quality to our line-up.”
Beyers Swanepoel to Elworth Cricket Club
Warriors all-rounder Beyers Swanepoel will rejoin Elworth Cricket Club.

Limpopo batsman Ludwig Kaestner will join Woodvale Cricket Club.
