All-rounder Sabir Mallie has joined the Devil’s Peak Dragons from the District Sixers, ahead of the 2021 edition of the Cape Premier League.
Mallie transferred for 1.2 million CPL dollars – the tournament’s fictional currency.
He was bought by the Sixers for 200,000 in 2019. The team retained him for 2020, but the CPL was not played that year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Batsman Brent Johnson, meanwhile, has left the Dragons for the Peninsula Patriots. He transferred for 800,000.
The Patriots are new to the CPL, which has grown from six to eight teams. The West Coast Outlaws are the other addition.
The 2021 player auction will take place at Newlands in Cape Town on Friday, 30 July.
This year’s CPL is scheduled to start in late September and run until mid-October.
The Cape Vikings are the reigning champions, after beating the Hoeri Kwaggo Bulls in the inaugural final in 2019.
