Samora Machel Cricket Club formally renamed Ikamva Cricket Club in WPCA club cricket

Samora Machel Cricket Club has been renamed Ikamva Cricket Club.

The name change was formally accepted at late last month’s Western Province Cricket Association annual general meeting.

“Samora Machel Cricket Club was started in 2006. It was formally registered with the Western Province Cricket Association in 2007,” club representative Aphiwe Mxabanisi told Club Cricket SA.

“The translation of ‘Ikamva’ is ‘the future’ and we are looking to make kasi (township) cricket great through coaching and education.”

Other WPCA club changes

Camps Bay Cricket Club and Lentegeur Cricket Club, meanwhile, have returned to WPCA club competition.

Glamorgan Cricket Club and Elsies River Cricket Club have merged to become Vikings Cricket Club.

These changes, too, were formally accepted at last week’s WPCA AGM.
