Sarah Barber leaves Lions Women for North West Women

All-rounder Sarah Barber has joined North West Women ahead of the 2025-26 domestic season in South Africa.

Barber was previously with Lions Women. She had not played for them since March 2024. Before joining Lions Women, Barber was with KwaZulu-Natal Inland Women.

“A heartfelt farewell to our spirited seamer, Sarah Barber, as she takes the next step in her cricket journey with North West,” read a statement from Lions Women.

“Your energy, passion and grit will be deeply missed in the pride. Thank you for every delivery, every smile and every moment in the Lions colours. Go shine, Sarah – once a Lioness, always a Lioness.”

Meanwhile, South Western Districts Women have appointed new head coach Wynand de Ridder.

De Ridder has succeeded former SWD Women head coach Martelize van der Merwe. He has previously worked with Kenya and South Western Districts Colts.

“This appointment is recognition for the professional work ethic and dedication that Wynand has shown towards SWD and must be an inspiration for local coaches to advance via the pathway,” said SWD Cricket president Micheal Eksteen.

“Martelize coached our women’s team in exciting and challenging times and her contributions during the past three season will be recorded as one of the success stories in the advancement of women’s cricket in our annals.”
