Northerns Goodwood Cricket Club’s 2018-19 Western Province Cricket Association first division A campaign will be the veteran Robin van Harte’s last as a player.

Van Harte will stop playing at the end of this season – and continue coaching through 2019-20 and beyond.

He joined Northerns Goodwood Cricket Club, from premier league outfit Milnerton Cricket Club as a player-coach, before the start of the 2018-19 season.

“I feel it is time to step off the playing field. I have been playing since the age of 12 years old – and have never ever missed a season. The body and mind knows when it’s time, I guess,” the 41-year-old van Harte told Club Cricket SA.

“It’s hard to play with the same intensity as I would like too. And knowing my character, if I can’t go full tilt, then it’s time. It has been great, but I’ll continue to coach as per normal.”

He also represented Avendale Cricket Club, Victoria Cricket Club, Green Point Cricket Club, Glamorgan Cricket Club and Bellville Cricket Club.

“With the utmost respect and humility, I would like to thank all the clubs for having me during my playing days, during the best and the worst of me,” he wrote on social media.

“It has always been a real privilege and honour to play for the respective teams. All experiences, good or bad, have helpedĀ shaped my life.”
