Slow bowler Shaheen Safeda took an 800th wicket for Claremont Cricket Club recently.
Safeda currently plays for Claremont Cricket Club’s third XI. They compete in the Western Province Cricket Association reserve division B.
He joined Claremont Cricket Club in 1999 – and represented Claremont Cricket Club’s first XI and second XI, too.
“This milestone of 800 wickets is simply incredible from Shaheen,” said Claremont Cricket Club representative Marvin Williams.
“His commitment and dedication to the club has been second to none. A career of playing 20-odd years for one club is just unheard of – this is quite rare in amateur sport and club cricket.
“To ‘Saffy’, we say well done and thank you for your service – long may it continue.”
Safeda will captain Claremont Cricket Club against Northerns Goodwood Cricket Club on Saturday.
