Ottoman Cricket Club have lost batsman Muneer Holmes to injury for the remainder of a challenging 2018-19 Western Province Cricket Association premier league campaign.

Holmes sustained a shoulder injury during 19 January’s fixture against hosts Western Province Cricket Club at the Wally Wilson Oval.

Ottoman Cricket Club currently occupy 11th position in the premier league’s 12-team standings, after one victory in a dozen matches.

They recently recruited Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Aashim Kaushal. The 23-year-old represented the Rajasthan Rangers in India’s northern premier league two years ago. He also played age-level cricket for Punjab.

“No matter where in the world, I always try give 100 percent in matches and practice sessions – and I am looking forward to playing on South African surfaces,” Kaushal told Club Cricket SA.

Club chairman Fareed Abrahams added: “Ottoman Cricket club are keen on giving overseas players opportunities to play here, but often cannot afford these players who look for opportunities to earn some money during their off-season.

“Thanks to United Cricket club, we found Aashim, who is looking for opportunities to play abroad for the experience more than the money. The club had five players from Malaysia and one from Jersey in previous years.”

Jersey fast bowler Ben Kynman played for Ottoman Cricket Club in 2017.
