Fast bowler Siya Plaatjie and spinner Siya Simetu have been named in the Warriors’ squad for this week’s 4-Day Domestic Series fixture against North West in Potchefstroom.

Plaatjie has been capped twice at first-class level by the Warriors since relocating to the Eastern Cape from the Western Cape.

Simetu, who played for the Cape Cobras and Western Province before moving to the Warriors, has not played first-class cricket in seven years.

“We are looking forward to starting the 4-Day Domestic Series campaign,” said Warriors captain Matthew Breetzke.

“In recent years, we have had good success in this format and have added new additions to our squad, which I feel will help us compete for the number one spot in this competition.”

The Warriors ended the 2022-23 4-Day Domestic Series in second position. In 2021-22, they had achieved second position as well.

“We have done well in four-day cricket for the past two years, but it is a totally different group this year,” added Warriors head coach Robin Peterson.

“North West is a very good team. They have improved in the last year as a group, so it will be a very tough challenge.

“It is all about getting back to basics and doing what we have done well as a team over the past two years and integrating the guys who have joined the squad.”
