The University of Johannesburg Cricket Club have appointed a new head coach in Siya Sibiya.
Sibiya has effectively replaced former head coach Dumisa Makalima, who has accepted a role with Limpopo in division two of South Africa’s new domestic cricket structure.

“The club is delighted to announce that Siya has been appointed as the head coach of the University of Johannesburg Cricket Club – as well as head coach of our university team that will compete at the Varsity Cup and University Sports South Africa tournaments,” read a statement from UJ Cricket Club.
“He comes with a wealth of experience, having worked with the Western Province Cricket Association in various capacities – as well as with the South Africa Under-19 team. He also worked with the Central Gauteng Lions as the Under-19 head coach.
“As a club, we look forward to a fruitful tenure filled with success and cooperation alongside Siya. We wish him all the best in his journey with UJ. He will officially commence his duties as head coach on 1 September 2021.
“We would like to thank Ronny Huma, who filled the head coach post on an interim basis to ensure the preparations for the new season were not derailed. Huma will not be lost to the system, as he will be working closely with the new head coach in mapping the way forward.”
The University of Johannesburg Cricket Club compete in the Lions Cricket premier league, which includes Wanderers Cricket Club, Soweto Cricket Club and others.
