Spinner Siya Simetu debuted for the Warriors against Boland in the 4-Day Domestic Series recently.

Simetu, who previously played for Western Province and South Western Districts, had not played first-class cricket in seven years prior to mid-November 2023’s fixture at St George’s Park.

The 32-year-old Simetu was given a high-performance contract by the Warriors earlier this year.

“It was quite exciting to make my debut for the Warriors and to get the win was even more special,” Simetu told the Herald.

“I’m one of the new guys to come in this season, but in terms of squad depth, we have covered our bases well in terms of our batting and bowling.”

The Warriors currently occupy fourth position in division one of this season’s 4-Day Domestic Series. They beat Boland after drawing with North West.

“I think we are heading in the right direction. If you look at the last two years or so, we have been quite close to winning the four-day competition,” added Simetu.

“So I think that more than the cricketing aspect, it’s just about getting over the line mentally, because we have a talented group of players.

“I just think it’s more mental in that when those big moments come, we are calm and ready to engage in the battle.”
