South Africa A lost this week’s four-day fixture against Sri Lanka A by 160 runs, inside three days, in Hambantota.
South Africa A were defeated despite spinner Senuran Muthusamy’s first-class career-best match figures of 12 for 175. He took seven wickets in the first innings and five in the third.
Sri Lanka A collected 325 all out, to which South Africa A responded with 131 all out. Sri Lanka A then posted 151 all out – and South Africa A’s reply reached a final 185 for nine. Batsman Tristan Stubbs was absent.
“Stubbs got sick yesterday, so was unable to come to the ground. But that’s what touring the sub-continent is all about. It’s character building and guys really toughing it out,” Conrad told IOL.
South Africa A and Sri Lanka A will meet for a second and final four-day fixture in Hambantota next week. South Africa A won the preceding limited-overs series.
