Erwee replaced the absent Keegan Petersen in the XI – and opened the batting alongside captain Dean Elgar. Opener Aiden Markram shifted to third position.

The recalled Zubayr Hamza effectively replaced spinner Keshav Maharaj in the XI, as South Africa opted for an additional batsman instead of a fifth specialist bowler. Stuurman was selected ahead of fast bowler Lungi Ngidi.

New Zealand moved to 116 for three – for a lead of 21 – at the close of play. Opener Will Young fell to all-rounder Marco Jansen before fast bowler Duanne Olivier removed top-order pair Devon Conway and Tom Latham.

More on Erwee and Stuurman

Erwee and Stuurman have performed solidly at domestic level for several seasons. Erwee represents KwaZulu-Natal and Stuurman Eastern Province.

Both have played for South Africa A.

Stuurman was capped at T20I level in 2021, but this is Erwee’s first match in international cricket.
