Former Proteas all-rounders Eric Simons and Albie Morkel have been named assistant coaches of the Texas Super Kings for this year’s edition of Major League Cricket in the United States of America.
Fellow South African Greg King has been appointed Texas’ strength and conditioning coach.
Simons, King and Morkel have longstanding working relationships with the Chennai Super Kings franchise, who own Texas’ MLC team.
Former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming is Texas’ head coach.
Other South Africans in MLC
King, Simon and Morkel are among several South Africans involved in MLC. Former Proteas fast bowler Dale Steyn was recently appointed Washington Freedom bowling coach.
Former Proteas spinner Robin Peterson has been appointed head coach of MI New York, who have recruited batsman Dewald Brevis and fast bowler Kagiso Rabada.
Proteas pair Marcus Jansen and Anrich Nortje have been signed by Washington. All-rounder Wayne Parnell and wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock will be with the Seattle Orcas. Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has joined the San Francisco Unicorns.
The first season of MLC is scheduled for 13 to 30 July 2023.
