St Augustine Cricket Club mourn death of Veterans captain and 2004 Olympian Gershon Rorich

St Augustine Cricket Club member Gershon Rorich passed away recently.

He was 49 years old.

Rorich was a longstanding member of St Augustine Cricket Club. He captained the club’s Western Province Veterans Cricket Association league team during the 2022-23 season.

Rorich was an accomplished beach volleyball player – and represented South Africa at the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004.

“At St Augustine Cricket Club we are experiencing a sense of sorrow, sadness and deep loss,” read a statement from St Augustine Cricket Club life president John Jacobs.

“The mighty Gershon Rorich, the doyen of all things volleyball executed in a shroud of excellence, also enjoyed a good game of cricket.

“Gershon was a loyal member of St Augustine Cricket Club with a disposition of inspirational nuance. He was loved by all and his joyous presence permeated all beings and caressed the heart.

“We shall miss him is in all totality an understatement, but his legacy will always be around to provide solace.

“We offer our sincere condolences to the family and express our gratitude for blessing us with the opportunity to experience his profound presence.”
