St Augustine Cricket Club mourn passing of ‘backbone of the club’ Harold Arenz

Former St Augustine Cricket Club president Harold Arenz has passed away.

Arenz was also a former recipient of the Western Province Cricket Association’s prestigious presidential award.

“We will remember him for his strong value-driven leadership and for his stance on ethics,” said current St Augustine Cricket Club chairman Robin Poggenpoel added:

“He served as player, chairman of the club, president of the club and honourary life member at St Augustine Cricket Club. He was a strong family man and a backbone of the club.”

WPCA chief executive officer Nabeal Dien added: “We wish to extend our sincere condolences to the family of Mr Arenz, a man who received the highest accolade for any Cape Town-based cricket ambassador – the president’s award for lifelong service to cricket in the Western Province.

“To his friends, former colleagues, former fellow players and family, we wish to say we are united in our grief after the loss of a leader who served at St Augustine Cricket Club for several decades – and who left an indelible mark on the game of cricket in the region.”
