Stuart Broad becomes fifth bowler to take 600 Test wickets

England seamer Stuart Broad took a 600th Test wicket on day one of this week’s fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford in Manchester.

Broad started the match with 598 Test wickets. He dismissed Australian opener Usman Khawaja in Wednesday’s fifth over and middle-order batsman Travis head in the 50th.

He has become the fifth player in the history of Test cricket to take 600 wickets.

Only Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan, Australia’s Shane Warne, England team-mate James Anderson and India’s Anil Kumble have taken more Test wickets than the 37-year-old Broad.

Broad debuted in Test match cricket in 2007. He has taken 10 or more wickets in a Test three times – twice against West Indies and once against Australia.

He has taken 149 Test wickets against Australia. That number accounts for almost 25 percent of his total Test wickets.

He has taken 394 Test wickets in the United Kingdom. That number account for almost two thirds of his total Test wickets.

Broad’s most prolific calendar years in Test cricket were in 2015, 2016 and 2017. He took 340 across those three years.
