The Sunrisers Eastern Cape have signed Afghanistan fast bowler Fareed Ahmad for the remainder of this year’s SA20.
Ahmad has replaced England all-rounder Craig Overton in the Sunrisers’ squad. Overton withdrew shortly before the start of the tournament.
Ahmad has played 15 ODIs and 29 T20Is since debuting in international cricket in 2014.
The Sunrisers are also without seamer Sisanda Magala and Roelof van der Merwe. Magala and van der Merwe were the Sunrisers’ leading wicket-takers in last year’s SA20. They were unavailable for this year’s tournament, though.
The Eastern Cape team currently occupy second position in this SA20 season’s standings after three wins, one loss and one no-result.
The Sunrisers are the reigning SA20 champions. They beat the Pretoria Capitals in last year’s inaugural final.
